Shandonagh GAA Notes
Our U-12’s had comfortable win in their first match of the season against Ballynacargy. All players were ready for action and looked extremely fit. As the season progresses the games will get more difficult but this was a great start to the season. Congratulations and well done to every boy on the team. Training is on Wednesday at 6.30 pm in Shandonagh pitch.
Our U-14 girls travelled to Kinnegad for their first outing of the league. Kinnegad took an early lead and went in with a 2 point advantage at half time. However with some outstanding saves from Emma Fry and resolute defending from Rebecca Maguire, Shandonagh turned the game around. Shandonagh secured a penalty and a very clinical Kelly Nagle stuck it in the back net. Our newcomer Sarah Conroy added some fine points to the scoreboard to leave the game Shandonagh 2-5 - Kinnegad 2-2. This was an outstanding team performance.
Shandonagh U-14 Boys had a very busy weekend. It kicked off on Saturday in Shandonagh where our boys took on Lilliput Gaels in Feile na nOg Quarter-Finals. Shandonagh did enough to win this match and progress to the Semi-final on Sunday in which they would face Rosemount. Final score in this match was Shandonagh 0-11 – Lilliput Gaels 2-3
At 6pm on Sunday evening, Shandonagh took to the pitch to face Rosemount. The first half saw a very dominant side in Shandonagh, taking their chances and playing some excellent football. The tables turned early on in the second half and we saw Rosemount score 3 goals in a very short space of time, taking the game to a nail biting 1 point difference in Shandonagh’s favour. However our boys didn’t drop their heads and battled fiercely for every chance. A big opportunity came half way through the second half, when Shandonagh secured a penalty for a foot block. This penalty was scored and put the home team ahead. Rosemount respond with some fine points but Shandonagh ran out winners in the end. Some excellent free taking and strong will lead our boys to their second feile final in 2 years and to this year’s competition. Big congratulations to all involved.
Minor training continues on Thursday at 7pm in Shandonagh Pitch.
