Downs take points in much improved Shandonagh performance

On Friday night last Shandonagh played their third game in the ACFL DIV 1 against The Downs. On a perfect evening for football both teams contributed to a high scoring fast paced game. Both teams settled well and traded points before the Downs full forward registered their first goal. Despite this Shandonagh responded well with points from Tom Molloy and Aaron Flanagan. Shandonagh pulled a goal back towards the end of the first half with a well taken penalty by Brian Kavanagh

Half time score was The Downs 2-05, Shandonagh 1-06.

The second half continued as the first half had finished with both sides attacking at a frenetic pace. In a ten minute period following half time Shandonagh had a lot of possession but failed to capitalise on the scoreboard and with fifteen minutes remaining The Downs held a two point lead. An opportunist goal from Luke Tynan put the men in blue in front for a brief period. The Downs responded immediately with a goal of their own. In the closing period The Downs experience and fitness levels kicked in and they ran in two more goals.

Overall this was a much improved performance from Shandonagh with excellent individual performances from Luke Tynan, Maitiu Scully, Aaron Flanagan, Tom Molloy and Ben Treanor. Special mention should also go to the Downs full forward Ian Martin who finished with a personal tally of 3 02.

Full time score was the Downs 4-13, Shandonagh 2-11.
