UNDER 16 BOYS Division ii

Shandonagh 5-12 Caulry 4-5

Our under 16 boys made the short journey to Ballynacarrigy on Saturday last to take on Caulry in perfect conditions. This was a keenly fought encounter with neither side prepared to give up anything easily. Indeed the scoreline at half time read Shandonagh 2-6 Caulry 3-3 and it was a fair enough reflection of the first half performance from the sides. We had a purple patch for the opening 10 minutes of the second half.  We scored a goal in the 4th minute that seemed to be the deciding score as it seemed to give our lads the cushion needed for them to relax and play some very expansive football. They took their points well, however Caulry came back picked off a goal that brought them right back into the game. And so they had their purple patch too. So much so that with 11 minutes to play, there was only a point between the sides. The tide turned again in Shandonagh's favour as they dominated the final 10 minutes and closed out the game comfortably in the end. So well done boys and we look forward to playing Coralstown Kinnegad in the final in due course. Time, date and venue to be announced at a later date. Under 16 Boy's Football League. 11th Otctober 2015

Round 6 Result:

Shandonagh  5:11  Shannon Gaels 1:05

Shandonagh travelled to Tubberclair on Monday last 11th May to play Shannon Gaels in their penultimate league game.  This was a very enjoyable game as the lads showed a great team spirit through the game.  Every player bought into the system that the coaches were trying to implement.  It would be very unfair to select an outstanding player as this was a complete team performance. Shandonagh playing with a strong breeze in the first half found it difficult to judge the strength of the breeze and squandered some good build up play by kicking the ball too far ahead of our forwards.  Once this was rectified the game settled down and the lads picked off some very good scores. We went in at half time leading 3:03 to 0:02.

Playing against the breeze in the second half our lads played some of their best football of the league campaign. We moved the ball quickly and accurately and this gave us plenty of scoring opportunities.  Again we were delighted to be able to introduce all subs and their introduction did not weaken our team in the slightest.

Well done to everyone who travelled to Tubberclair on Monday evening. Our final league game is against Rosemount  - date has yet to be confirmed.

Training continues on Thursday evening.

26 members of our U16 Squad travelled to Bunbrosna on Wednesday evening last to play Inny Gaels in round 5 of the league.

The great turnout meant again that the selectors team management faced the difficult task of ensuring that all players were given game time, whilst still keeping balance in the team.

Inny Gaels started the stronger and gave our lads plenty to think about in the early exchanges. The team mentors needed to make changes in order for Shandonagh to get a foot-hold in the game.

The players responded positively and began to get more involved in proceeds as the game neared half time. Indeed, we were lucky to be ahead at half time on a scoreline of 1:02 to 1:04.

Again, as in previous games, Shandonagh applied themselves better in the second half. Our boys stuck to their task well and seemed to be the fitter team in the closing stages of the game.

We play Tubberclair on Monday evening next in Tubberclair. This match is due to throw in at 8.00pm sharp. All players needing transport to match should meet at Shandonagh for 6:45.

Our Final league match is on Wednesday evening in Rosemount. The start time is yet to be finalised. 10th May 2015

Round 4 Result: Malachy’s/Ballinagore 10-09 Shandonagh 1-07

Round 5 Result: Millmore Gaels 2-10 Shandonagh 5-10

Our Under 16 squad are going through a busy period at the moment with League games coming thick and fast.

On Monday 27th April we travelled to Ballinagore to take on Lilliput Gaels, a combination team comprising of players from St.Malachy’s and Ballinagore. Our lads competed well for periods but were severely punished for slack marking and poor decision making.  Lilliput Gaels ran out easier winner.  On a positive note it was encouraging to hear players analysing the game afterwards and admitting that they did not play to their potential.

This honesty was rewarded the following Monday evening when they took on Milmore Gaels in Ballymore.. The travelling support added to the performance. Shandonagh were focused from the start and played some very good football. Shandonagh led at half time: 3-05 to 0-05. Shandonagh continued to play strongly in the second half and they had to as Milmore Gaels were eager for a victory. However Shandonagh prevailed and ran out easy winners in the end. Jensen Nagle put in a fine performance at centre back while Darragh O’Donoghue also displayed some fine defending qualities. Conor Smith had a good game between the posts while Lee Kelly gave an exhibition of high fielding at midfield. Great credit must be given to all players and parents that travelled to Ballymore as a very enjoyable game was served up.

We play Inny Gaels on Wednesday 6 th and also travel to Tubberclair on Monday 11 th to take on Shannon Gaels in round 6 of the league.

UNDER 16 Boys Match Report

Result: Shandonagh 7-10,  Killucan 2-5

Shandonagh’s Under 16 squad played host to Killucan on Wednesday evening last in the third round of Division 2 of the league. This game was played in ideal conditions and both teams served up good football. The first half was very evenly contested.  Shandonagh’s plan to move the ball quickly in the first half was excellently executed and Killucan tired approaching half time. Indeed at half time it was 8 scores to 6.  However the old adage that goals win matches proved right as Shandonagh raised the green flag on five occasions while Killucan only managed to raise it once. We went in at half time 5-3 to 1-5 ahead.
A couple of quick scores at the start of the second half ensured that Shandonagh would get two more league points.  Shandonagh had the luxury of emptying their bench and ran out comfortable winners. Many players impressed for Shandonagh including Cormack Coyne, Lee Kelly and Eoin Casey.

Next up is Lilliput Gaels on Monday 27th.

U16 R2 Result

Shandonagh: 3:13 Garrycastle 2:6

Our U16 Team travelled to Garrycastle on Wednesday evening 8th April to take on the home side in round 2 of the league.  Garrycastle got off to a good start and kept our backs on their toes early on. As the game settled down Shandonagh got on top, and as our forwards pressed, Garrycastle were forced to concede frees.  These were well executed by Cormac Coyne.  Goals from Keelan Patel and Cormac Coyne saw us lead at the half time interval 2:6 to 0:2

Shandonagh started strong in the second half and with a man of the match performance from captain Lee Kelly added to their tally.  Shandonagh were able to introduce five subs during the game and each made a significant contribution. Final Score Shandonagh 3:13 Garrycastle 2:6
